Overview

The Senior Finance Manager (SFM) is responsible for all financial aspects of the Business Unit. This includes the monthly, quarterly and year-end financial statements and reporting, all local accounting processes, financial analysis for both past results and forecasting, annual budgeting, and financial analysis and presentation for customer pricing and capital project proposals. The SFM will be responsible for understanding the operations of the business to accurately establish standard costs for all products and estimate the impact on such standards related to anticipated changes in the business. The SFM will partner with the Operations Manager and General Sales Manager to ensure alignment and the financial results of the business unit, and in agreement on forecasting, margin impact from new business and plant projects. Assist as needed with other analysis as well as special projects.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance, CPA or advanced degree 
  • 7 to 10 years similar responsibilities in a manufacturing company.
  • Strong communication and presentation skills
  • Solid understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles
  • Strong analytical ability and attention to detail is required
  • Strong aptitude in understanding enterprise systems and the inter-relationship of the various modules, JD Edwards experience a plus
  • Advanced Excel and Access skills
  • Decision making abilities commensurate with job responsibilities
  • Must be able to handle multiple tasks and work under pressure to meet various deadlines
  • Strong interpersonal skills to work in a collaborative environment on a daily basis to ensure key team members are aligned on financial results and expectations

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for accurate, timely and informative reporting of financial results of the business unit
  • Prepare all required monthly, quarterly and annual financial reports
  • Responsible for accurate standard costing based on actual plant activities, and reporting of standard cost variances
  • Ensure accurate inventories on established periodic schedules
  • Manage all areas of the monthly closing process
  • Review and explain variances to budget and forecast, including
    • Variances from standard due to costing or usage of materials
    • Variances from standard due to labor or overhead
    • Unplanned spending variances
    • Lag and drag impact of Class II pricing on margins
    • Any other variances
  • Responsible for updating customer pricing on a monthly basis for changes in dairy markets or other cost components
  • In coordination with production and sales teams, prepare quarterly balance of year forecasts and annual budgets
  • Work with production and sales to prepare accurate pro forma analysis of customer proposals and capital or other plant projects
  • Work with the local team to produce and update weekly forecasts, with explanations of significant variances from the prior week
