Overview

The Environmental Health & Safety (EHS) Manager will lead the execution of the safety program through best practice sharing and standardization for the assigned manufacturing facilities and related distribution branches, with the goal of eliminating workplace accidents/injuries/illnesses, vehicle accidents, reducing work related injury costs and complying with all federal, state and local environmental, health and safety laws and regulations, and DOT regulations.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Environmental, Health and Safety or a related field preferred.
  • Must have a minimum of 3 years’ experience managing a EHS Program.
  • Professional certifications desirable. (Organizational and Trainer)
  • Industrial Wastewater Treatment Plant Operations experience preferred.
  • Food/beverage manufacturing background preferred.
  • Must possess working knowledge of OSHA, DOT regulations, and EPA standard and requirements. 
  • Knowledge of risk assessment and management techniques in identification of key facility improvement opportunities.
  • Excellent communication skills required. 
  • Strong leadership skills and demonstrated ability to influence. 
  • Ability to travel overnight on occasion to participate in Facility Assessments, Professional Development Conferences and EHS Departmental Meetings.
  • Other duties and responsibilities as required by corporate and plant management.

Responsibilities

Responsible for implementing, managing and sustaining the facility’s Environmental, Health and Safety management programs, managing the environmental, health and safety activities for the plant and associated DSD/Transportation Branches, to ensure regulatory compliance and protecting human health and the environment.

This position will also ensure facilities and distribution areas are compliant with: 

  • all OSHA, EPA, DOT and local regulations
  • all federal and state\local food safety guidelines and requirements
  • company safety standards, including support for the:
    • Process Safety Management Program
    • Wastewater Discharge Program
    • Storm Water Pollution Prevention (SWPP) Plan
    • Spill Prevention, Pollution, Control and Countermeasure (SPCC) Program
  • Manage and monitor worker’s compensation and vehicle claims. Investigate industrial accidents, near-miss incidents, and occupational injuries to determine causes, install preventive measures, and manage return-to-work activities.
  • Ensure that all DOT rules and regulations concerning transportation are being followed by CMV drivers.
  • Serve as the primary representative for external and internal audits and outside agencies and organization contacts.
  • Understand relevant technical requirements in safety, including Federal, State and Local ordinances and rules. Ensures standards meet or exceed both company and governmental regulations.
  • Conduct new hire safety orientation, training and coaching to ensure Safety and Security standards and awareness are well understood throughout the organization.   
  • Provide leadership and administration to the safety and security program.
  • Provide site safety leadership, ensure facility and distribution branch compliance with corporate safety standards, implement safety directives, improve safety performance, and ensure facility safety policies and procedures are aligned with governmental regulations.
  • Promote safe work activities by performing weekly\monthly safety audits and inspect facilities, machinery, and safety equipment to identify and correct potential hazards, and to ensure safety regulation compliance.
  • Implement established safety and security performance standards, methods of accomplishing those standards, and reporting processes for ensure compliance. 
  • Conduct and then ensure all appropriate risk assessments/abatements are conducted and follow-ups are implemented in a timely fashion.
  • Champion all safety improvements and ideas for the Manufacturing Facility and Distribution Department and Branches.
  • Provide leadership and direction regarding safety and security, policies and procedures with the assistance of managers and supervisors.
  • Manage Safety Committee for continuous improvement and professional growth to build organizational capability.
  • This position will occasionally require daytime travel to local distribution branches on a monthly/quarterly basis.
